Tony Talbot (1941-2009) of St Ives in Huntingdonshire
Early in 2009 St Ives lost one of it's characters, Mr Tony Talbot. Many people will remember him playing the organ at All Saints Church, usually with great gusto!, or perhaps as a result of his attendance, come rain or shine, as a spectator at just about every Civic Event the town has held for many, many years.
Tony was also well known for his feats of memory; if you told him a date, like that of your birthday, he could tell you the day of the week on which it occurred. He will be sadly missed.
Tony's funeral took place at All Saints Church on Monday 2nd February 2009 at 2pm. He would have been astonished at the number of friends he has left behind as the church was filled to capacity with a congregation that included the clergy and choir from All Saint's, ministers from the Sacred Heart (RC) and the Free Church joined by Cllr. John Davies, Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council, Cllr. Ian Dobson, Mayor of St Ives, numerous councillors from all the local authorities and a huge number of people from the town and surrounding area.
We intend to record Tony as one of our Prominent Citizens, if you have memories, pictures or stories about Tony that you would like us to record please email them to the webmaster.
